Island Peak 6165m.

  •   Trip Grade: Strenuous

Overview

The peak was first ascended in 1953 by a British team as preparation for climbing Everest. Tenzing Norgay was one of the members who successfully ascended it.

For a proper acclimatization before the Island peak climbing, at first we trek to Everest Base camp and the Kalapathar, a popular trekkers destination in Nepal. Its popularity has grown since the first expedition to the Nepalese side of Everest in the 1950’s.

Kalap Patthar ‘black rock’ in Nepali, appears as a big brown bump below the impressive south face of Mt. Pumori (7161m). Many trekkers attempt to climb Kala Patthar, since it provides a spectacular view of Mt. Everest from Everest Base Camp to summit.

The trek starts from Lukla after taking a 45 minutes flight from Kathmandu. The trail follows the Dudh Kosi valley which climbs up to the namche bazaar, it’s a junction for local, trekkers and expedition. Trek continues to Tengboche monastery located on top of a ridge, Pangboche, Dingboche village, Lobuche and Gorakshep. After an excursion trip to Everest base camp and short climbi to Kathapather, we trek back to the final destination, the Island base camp via chukhung and start climbing.
